The storm that had been wreaking havoc on the TMB showed no signs of relenting on day 6. The trail continued to grow muddier, the skies stayed dark, and the air remained cold. For as much as people talk about the incredible views on this walk, there have been none to be taken in since crossing Col de Seigne. Our original plan was to do this stage, eat lunch in Champex, and continue on to Col de la Forclaz…but it was not to be. The rain was falling just a little too much, and the trail conditions would not allow for it.

We stopped at Champex Lac and found a great hotel that was set just on the water. There was a great bakery just up the street, and we bought rations at the local market for dinner and breakfast.





We spent some time wandering around town and came upon a church just at the entrance of Champex. It was like something out of a mystery TV show on modern day cults. The artwork inside was beautifully unusual. Part of me was expecting to find Marty Hart and Rust Cohle rummaging through wall shavings in the corner talking about Carcosa.
