Review: Golden Island Jerkey

| | ,

A few weeks ago, I got an email asking if I wanted to sample some jerky for an upcoming food review. I’ve been getting a lot of emails like this lately for books, clothes, and other outdoor related items. I usually have to give myself some time to think about each email, since I’ll be writing a review on the product at some point. I’d hate to agree to write something and then struggle to find the inspiration or words. Luckily for me, I have no trouble finding the inspiration or desire to review jerky! Beef, turkey, and pork jerky make for a delicious, low-calorie, hiking and travel snack that I take with me on just about every adventure. What made this review even more compelling for me personally, was that the company, Golden Island, is from Rancho Cucamonga, and their office is only a few miles from me. It’s always really cool to be able to help support and promote local companies!

Golden Island Jerky
The Story of Golden Island

As part of the Golden Island sampler I received Kung Pao beef jerky, Sriracha pork jerky, Grilled Barbecue pork jerky, and Korean Barbecue pork jerky. Golden Island jerky is all natural with no added hormones, gluten free, and nitrate free. There are no artificial flavors or ingredients. The Kung Pao was incredible with the perfect spicy kick to compliment the generous portions of beef. The pork Sriracha jerky is also a very well crafted snack that’s bursting with flavor. Anyone that likes Sriracha should give this one a try. The Grilled Barbecue pork jerky and Korean Barbecue pork jerky were my favorites, with the Korean BBQ topping the grilled by an inch. Both jerky flavors had an incredible grilled smokey taste, with phenomenal texture.

Take A Look At That Sriracha!

I mentioned the the quality of this jerky earlier, but I’d also like to mention it’s minimal calorie impact. Each bag is comprised of 3 servings that have 90-100 each serving. They also have low amounts of fat and lots of protein. Unlike some of the processed mass produced jerky, Golden Island has a surprisingly low amount of sodium when compared to other brands.

Golden Island jerky is a delicious addition to any hiking, backpacking, or travel snack pack. I’ll definitely be looking to add some more of that Korean BBQ jerky too my pantry soon!
