I just returned from Denver after a great weekend at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. Looking back at last year, my highlights were very product focused. This year, I find myself focusing more on the important topics and ideas in the outdoor industry. I’ve put together a list of the 5 major industry related highlights that stood out for me.
The Salomon Sense Ultra Pro has been my ‘Goldilocks’ trail shoe of the year so far. From upper to outsole, everything feels ‘just right’ for my feet. I’ve worn these on hikes and trail runs, and have yet to find something that I don’t like about them. The Sense Ultra Pro is built on the same platform as the SLAB Sense Ultra, and as much as I liked the SLAB Sense Ultra, I like the Sense Ultra Pro even more.Â
The Salomon X Ultra has been updated to version 3 for 2017. Building on the success of the X Ultra 2, Salomon has made a few minor improvements to the upper that make for a much better fitting hiking shoe. The midsole and outsole go largely unchanged, which will come as good news to most of us that wore the X Ultra 2.
The previous XA Pro 3D was one of the first reviews I wrote for this blog when it launched back in 2014. You can see how far I’ve come by taking a look at that review. For those unfamiliar with the XA Pro 3D, this shoe is essentially a lightweight low-cut boot that can handle anything you throw at it. Here is my preview.
